When the signs of aging start to kick in for most people, their reflection on the mirror does not reflect how they feel inside. With aging comes the breakdown of the skin’s connective fibers such as elastin and collagen which also causes loss of fat in the deep skin layers. This results in loose, sagging skin that wrinkles easily.

It is because of this that many individuals turn to antiaging procedures such as a facelift in order to have a more youthful face that would reflect how they feel on the inside. However, not everyone is ready yet to go under the knife or feels comfortable for a surgical facelift procedure but there are non-surgical options to consider such as the liquid facelift.

A liquid facelift utilizes the use of dermal fillers to achieve a similar effect as that of the more invasive facelift. A liquid facelift differs from a surgical facelift in that it does not involve the cutting of the skin or the use of the scalpel. Although the goal of the liquid facelift is to reduce the appearance of sagging and wrinkles resulting in a tighter and more rejuvenated appearance, it can also:

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for a liquid facelift is someone who is younger to middle-aged and suffers from the usual effects of aging such as vertical lip lines, mild jowls, crow’s feet, and cheek volume loss. It is typically for someone with a minimal amount of sagging and relatively few wrinkles. If you suffer from a lot of sagging skin or if you are looking for dramatic results, a surgical facelift might be the best option for you.

A liquid facelift is however not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an allergy to lidocaine.

Targeted areas for a Liquid Facelift

Although a liquid facelift generally targets the face, dermal fillers can also be used to reverse the signs of aging on your hands. The main areas that your Plastic Surgeon might target during the procedure are:

Since everyone is different, the areas injected with the dermal fillers will depend on the type of desired results you are looking for.

Prior to the procedure, your Plastic Surgeon will listen to your concerns and desired goals before examining your skin and recommending the type of dermal filler that will suit you best.

During the procedure, a local anesthetic may be used to numb the injection area. The dermal fillers are then injected into the face and it might sting a little. The session takes about 15 to 30 minutes depending on the area being injected. The great thing about this procedure is that all the treatment areas can be done in a single session.

It is common for Plastic Surgeons to use Botox alongside dermal fillers so as to enhance and extend the results.

Recovery and Results

You might experience temporary redness and bruising following a liquid facelift. The results are immediate but last between 4 to 12 months depending on the type of dermal filler used. You are required to rest for a period of 24 hours following a liquid facelift procedure and avoid touching or massaging the treatment areas unless you’ve been instructed to. You can resume full activity after about a week following a liquid facelift.
